Sumer is pleased to participate in the 2023 edition of the Aotearoa Art Fair. The gallery will be exhibiting a solo presentation of new works by Naarm Melbourne-based artist Brook Andrew.
Andrew's practice is driven by the collisions of intertwined narratives, often emerging from the mess of the “Colonial Wuba (hole)”. A leading artist, academic, facilitator and proponent for indigenous peoples and cultures, his practice is grounded in his perspective as an Australian Wiradjuri and Celtic person. Brook's artworks, museum interventions, research, leadership roles and curatorial projects challenge the limitations imposed by power structures, historical amnesia and complicity to centre and support Indigenous ways of knowing and being through systemic change and yindyamarra (respect, honour, go slow and responsibility).
This is artist's first solo presentation with a dealer gallery in Aotearoa New Zealand.
