THE GALLERY IS NOW CLOSED
About the gallery:
Sumer was a commercial art gallery based in Aotearoa New Zealand, working with artists from across Oceania and internationally. Founded in Tauranga in 2018, the gallery established a programme committed to presenting critically engaged contemporary practices across generations—bringing together established, emerging, and less widely recognised artists in a shared dialogue.
In 2023, Sumer relocated to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, where it continued to develop an ambitious exhibition programme grounded in curiosity, rigour, and a belief in the value of thoughtful, experimental practice. Across its seven and a half years of operation, the gallery worked closely with artists, collectors, and institutions to support the production, presentation, and circulation of new work.
Sumer closed in early 2026. While the gallery is no longer operating, the relationships, ideas, and contributions shaped through its programme continue beyond its physical space.
